Stolen van hits the hydro distribution line

A man stole a vehicle, but after police tried to pull him over was fleeing and crashed into Manitoba Hydro distribution line.

Early Monday morning a stolen van was spotted by police near McPhillips Street. Approximately 12:15 a.m. police cruisers were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle, the driver lost control and crashed into the hydro line. As per police, estimated damages caused by collision are around $120,000, this amount will be added to a big list of charges the suspect is facing.

After the crash, the suspect fled on foot, by was later located by police with the help of K9 unit. A 37-year-old man was arrested and now is in police custody. In stolen vehicle police found shotgun shells and other ammunition in the house on Alexander Avenue, this is a place, where the suspect was hiding for officers.

Car theft crime is on the rise in Winnipeg. Unfortunately, almost every day a vehicle gets reported stolen, most of them are located later by police on the streets, driven by impaired criminals. Many of such crimes involve youth, they just do it for fun or without thinking, while on meth or under other drugs influence.

As per police majority of youth crime is connected to meth consumption. Meth-related crimes are at its highest in 2018, city police and authorities are working on dedicating the necessary funds and people to overcome the issue, which will result in the overall crime decrease in Winnipeg.
