Winnipeg Jets beat New Jersey Devils

The Jets won their first match in a tour of the Global Series in Finland by beating Florida 4-2. The hero of the match was Patrik Laine, who was marked by a hat trick in the arena in Helsinki. The return to their homeland had a very favorable effect on the right-winger of the Jets, who was able to interrupt the goalless five-match series. The Jets Captain noted that young Laine is sometimes too critical of himself and his game but it certainly helps him to develop.

Mark Scheifele notched the overtime winner for the Winnipeg Jets over the New Jersey Devils.

“I was pretty exhausted at the time so I just wanted to get a shot off and was happy the rebound came to me,” Scheifele said. “We didn’t want to let our lead slip away, but we did get the win and we’re happy with that.”

It was the second goal of the game for Scheifele, coming at 4:43 in overtime to cap a back-and-forth 4-3 victory on Saturday, December 1st. The Jets had taken a 3-1 lead in the third period only to have the Devils battled back with two goals inside the final five minutes.

When Scheifele tucked his own rebound past Keith Kinkaid, the Jets finished off their second straight win and improved to 3-3-0 over their past six games. Josh Morrissey and Andrew Copp also scored for the Jets. Laurent Brossoit made 36 saves.

Marcus Johansson, Jesper Bratt, and Taylor Hall scored for New Jersey, which has lost five straight. Kinkaid stopped 34 shots. In overtime, the Devils failed to convert a two-man breakaway as Brossoit stopped Hall, who was set up by Nico Hischier.

The Devils fell to 0-5 in overtime.
