The Canadian National Institute for the Blind looking for volunteers in Winnipeg for raising guide dogs

CNIB provides the residents of Winnipeg with a unique opportunity to raise a future guide dog for the blind people of the province.

A puppy can be taken home at the age of about eight weeks and will be raised to the age of 12-15 months. With each new litter, the institute needs more and more volunteers for this work. “Our puppy raising program is actually a really big part of CNIB guide dogs. It’s where we have all the volunteers that will accept one of our future guide dogs into their home for roughly a year,” CNIB’s puppy raising supervisor Andrea Critch said.

“We are always looking for volunteers. We don’t just need puppy raisers, we also need boarders, and what boarders do is they give a relief to any of our puppy raisers so it’s more short term,” she added.

Anyone willing Winnipeg Resident can fill out an application on CNIB website and start working in a volunteer program.
