On Sunday, Joe Daley, the former Winnipeg Jets goalie, was honoured with a mural at the Bronx Park Community Centre.
"That's what I try and convey to all the young kids, is, first and foremost you're playing the game because you love the game and have fun doing it. I mean, I came down to this community club day after day only because I knew the fun I was going to have," he said.
He grew up close to Bronx Park and went there almost every day to see his friends and to come to the ice. Daley was in NHL in the 1967-68 and moved to WHA in 1972 and played 7 seasons with the Jets.
"When I came home in 1972 to play for the Jets, I did it because it was my hometown and I feel strongly about Winnipeg and I feel strongly about the Jets," he said. "So I hope if I inspire one child to follow their dream as I did, coming out of this centre and pursuing whatever they want to do in life, that like I said if you dream hard enough and work hard enough, good things happen, and that's what happened. So I feel very blessed."
All the kids who love hockey and who are dreaming about a hockey career were listening to the famous goalkeeper with great interest. One of the guys said that he received great inspiration and plans to do his best to make his dream come true.
