The changes took effect on March 1.
Now, all residents of Winnipeg and Manitoba will have to pay more to check their cars. Manitoba lifted $55 fee cap, starting from March it can become from $100 to $200.
Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler explained that it becomes more and more difficult and expensive for mechanics to work. That’s why the decision on lifting the price cap for the safety inspections was made.
"The list is getting longer and longer and the mechanic shops are indicating to us that they can't do that for $55," he said.
Michael Jones, service manager at Keystone Auto Repair in Winnipeg, agrees with the lifting of fee cap. In his opinion, now the mechanics will receive adequate money for the work done, and all the consumers will get better service.
However, not many people in the province who have an average income are not happy about the news.
