Former Winnipeg TV host accused of robbing six banks

Bank robbery sounds almost impossible nowadays, but still, such crimes still happening, but everyone gets caught eventually.

Former Winnipeg TV host and journalism teacher Steve Vogelsang will stand before the judge, as per his lawyer Greg White.

Stephen Vogelsang is accused of robbing two banks in Medicine Hat, Alberta, three in Regina, and one in Saskatoon from July to October 2017. At a preliminary hearing in November last year in Alberta, it was determined that enough evidence had been gathered for the trial.

White added that a psychiatric examination was carried out, which confirmed the possibility of his client to stand trial.

Vogelsang must be handed over to the Saskatchewan authorities, where a preliminary hearing will be held on April 1st, 2019. Vogelsang was a journalism teacher at Red River College from 2002 to 2011. Prior to that, he was a director of news service on CTV Winnipeg.

He was granted bail on the Medicine Hat charges last year but has been in custody in Saskatchewan in connection to the charges in that province.

This case and future court hearing got huge media coverage in Canada and especially in Winnipeg since many of nowadays journalists were Vogelsang`s student during his teaching career or his coworkers on CTV Winnipeg.
