Heat warnings for Manitoba

This year Manitoba is experiencing the driest first half of the year in over a century. The amount of precipitation that Manitoba has experienced this year is over 60% less than our normal amounts.

Now the heat warning was issued for Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg and much of the Red River Valley. Highs near 32 are expected today. Passage of a cold front will bring a return to more seasonal conditions on Monday, with daytime highs in the mid-twenties.

Other areas of the province will also see hot and humid conditions, although they should remain just shy of warning criteria.

Western Manitoba will likely see thunderstorms overnight and throughout Sunday.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Watch for the symptoms of heat illness: dizziness/fainting; nausea/vomiting; rapid breathing and heartbeat; extreme thirst; decreased urination with unusually dark urine.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
