Marijuana legalization will start in October and on the eve of this date the province conducts an educational campaign for all residents.
This program developed in conjunction with Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority (LGCA), should prepare citizens of Manitoba and explain to them all the rules of this innovation. Justice Minister Cliff Cullen said that all residents of Manitoba should have full information about the rules of legalization, in order to make decisions responsibly. He also emphasizes the importance to close the black market and to protect children from its use.
This campaign will cost $250,000 to the province. Its task is to reveal the basic rules for people.
For the purchase and use of cannabis in Manitoba, a person must reach the age of 19 years. It is permitted to buy cannabis only from legally licensed vendors, and it can not be grown at home. You can carry up to 30 grams of weed with you, but its consuming in any way in public places is strictly prohibited. These are the main points that the government is going to tell the population about the new program.
Liz Stephenson, the chief administrative officer of the LGCA considers the education of the population in this matter very important for the observance of public safety measures. In her opinion, this campaign is very important for providing correct information for all adult Manitobans.
The Manitoba police are now being trained to use a special one-road-side screening device, approved by the federal government. New technologies should help police work after legalization.
LGCA will soon launch another educational program in Manitoba, dedicated to the rules of responsible use of cannabis.
