Manitoba Public Insurance will raise rates in 2019

Fellow Winnipeggers, this will have an impact on all of us and every car owner in Manitoba, you should expect your auto insurance to go up by about 1.8 percent in 2019.

The Public Utilities Board approved the rate increase on Monday, December 3rd, which is set to take effect on March 1st, 2019. But that doesn’t mean your price will necessarily go up by that much.

MPI says that it will continue to base a person’s premium prices on their driving record, major vehicle class, and the make and model of their car, among other factors.

The public insurer initially asked for a 2.2 percent increase in premium rates. They were granted a 2.6 percent increase last year.

In winter, you need to ride on winter tires, this is the law, but it is expensive.

A few years ago, Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) proposed to create a program that would allow everyone to purchase winter tires on credit, and even cover the “re-fitting” of cars, etc.

This is how the MPI Manitoba Winter Tire Program appeared, the program works, and it is quite simple. You can get a loan of up to $ 2,000 per vehicle to purchase winter tires and related costs, including replacement and storage. They even cover the rims!

Interest is a mere prime plus 2 percent. This is really profitable, and you get installments up to 4 years to pay low enough monthly payments. For the safety of your family, you can really afford to use this program.

There are some limitations:

You must be an individual, no companies allowed.

Do not have restrictions on financing or outstanding debts on your MPI account.

It should be a purchase of tires for a car or light truck.

You should buy Snowflake Mountain tires, on the tire itself should be certain a logo.

Your dealer must take care to determine the right tires and your eligibility. You just need to bring to the dealership a couple of things:

Vehicle registration certificate and your driver's license or identity card.

Choose a financing period from one to four years and a monthly payment day.

Choose which existing bank or credit card to link this loan to.

A telephone number and preferred Autopac agent.
