Fire on Ellice Avenue sends 1 person to hospital

Unfortunately, fires or other life-threatening incidents are happening at industrial and production sites quite often. But much more dangerous and scary is a residential are fire, the place, where people live, there can be little children inside or elderly people, who are not fast up on their feet to run for safety.

On Sunday, January 13th approximately 4 a.m. the sound of a blaring fire alarm woke up the residents of an apartment complex on Ellice Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they saw two people clinging to a window ledge after trying to evacuate the building.

Firefighters helped them to evacuate using a ladder while trying to extinguish the fire, crews were also searching the building, and firefighters located one individual still inside. The person was transported to a hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to an unstable condition.

Approximately 30 people were evacuated from the apartment building. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team is assisting all of the displaced residents.

The Winnipeg Fire department specialists still investigating to determine the reason of fire and to estimate the damages to the building to the resident`s property. More details are coming in the official statement after the investigation is over.
