Animal adoption fees can become higher in 2019

Winnipeg’s animal services agency said that animal adoption and dog licencing fees can rise in 2019.

City’s Standing Policy Committee on Innovation prepared a report stating that the agency considers it necessary to increase fees for everything from licensing dogs to charging fees and trapping.

As the report showed, about 148,386 Winnipeg residents have cats and about 112,139 residents have dogs at their homes. Due to such large populations of domestic animals, there are a lot of services in the city.

For example, Winnipeg Humane Society and other organizations that are engaged in helping homeless animals and keeping animals in a shelter. An increase in fees can help these organizations operate better.

Changes in prices will be negligible for most people. They will pay $3 more to adopt an animal, $0.90 more for various vaccination services and $1 more daily to rent a trap.

If the council approves, all changes will take effect immediately.
