The International Glaciology Society (IGS) Symposium on Sea Ice will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada August 19-23, 2019. Themed "Sea Ice at the Interface", the symposium recognizes that sea ice plays a crucially important yet highly dynamic role in global climate, polar marine ecosystems, and Indigenous cultures. The dramatic changes in sea icescape and freshwater-marine coupling, particularly from glaciers, ice sheets, melting sea ice and continental runoff, have major implications for environmental and ecological integrity, and regional and global socioeconomic development.

This symposium presents a timely opportunity to showcase recent advances in our knowledge and technological capabilities, and to encourage holistic discussion of the most recent change, long-term trends and variability in the sea-ice environment in both hemispheres.
