Manitoba Public Insurance Warns: The Number of Accidents Due to the Fault of Sleeping Drivers Increase in Summer

MPI encourages all drivers to be particularly vigilant behind the wheel during the summer travel season. During this period, there is increased traffic on all highways due to a large number of tourists, and the number of accidents on the roads increases accordingly.

The specialists of MPI call the fact that some drivers fall asleep behind the wheel due to fatigue one of the main reasons for such accidents. They do not rest and do not sleep, in order to reach the place of rest as quickly as possible.

The insurance company gives pretty sad statistics. Almost half of the people they interviewed drove a car in a state of drowsiness and without rest for a long time. According to MPI, an average of 83 accidents per year is due to the fault of sleepy drivers, and 7 from them lead to serious injury or even death.

The vice-president of the company Ward Keith shared the recommendations, developed by the MPI for drivers in the summer season. They offer all drivers to take breaks during the driving to rest and to warm up. You should also correctly calculate the time of your trip, taking into account possible congestion on the roads or weather conditions. If during the movement you feel very tired and snobbish, then you need to stop and to sleep in a safe area.
