AMC Grand Chief Arlen Dumas calls for security changes in communities

Arlen Dumas wants changes connected to women from the communities.

Clean Environment Commission made a statement that a lot of Indian women were sexually abused about 50 years ago in the Fox Lake Cree Nation when more than 4000 men came there to work.

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs said that the situation was connected to the Kettle hydro project.

Due to this, AMC Grand Chief Arlen Dumas calls for making great changes in the security of Indigenous people. He is not against Manitoba Hydro project and wants to work with the province. However, the conditions should be changed.

According to him, all Indigenous people living where projects are in the process should have the same voice as other people connected to the projects. The Minister of Sustainable Development Rochelle Squires told that they are apologizing for what happened in the sixties.

Several women who were implicated in the case about sexual violence in the sixties commented on the situation and said that they can give names of guilty men. However, there is no official information on their applications at the moment. There are also no appeals to the court.
