A traffic light was placed at the crossroad where a boy was killed by a car last winter

The city authorities reacted to the tragedy and put a traffic light to a St. Vital crosswalk for children's safety.

The city infrastructure committee decided to add a traffic light to that crossroad to minimize incidents with the participation of children in the future. With the appearance of a traffic light, both drivers and pedestrians will be more careful and attentive.

We want to remind that a terrible car incident when a boy was killed happened in February 2018. The boy was going to school, and when he was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing he was hit by a car. An 8-year-old boy died. Charges were not brought to the driver.

After that situation, the Louis Riel School Division informed that there would be adults helping children to go across the intersection near the school.

The parents of the deceased boy insist on reducing the speed limits in the area near schools because they are dangerous due to a large number of children. They experienced a great grief and want to prevent other parents from doing this.
