Child psychologist from Winnipeg detained for keeping child porn

Winnipeg Police searched the home of a 72-year-old child psychologist and discovered child porn.

Gary Anthony Shady is placed under administrative arrest and is charged with possession of child pornography. This man worked with children at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg and the Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre.

The incident began with the fact that one of the providers of the online data storage system reported that child sex abuse was being sent through its system. The message went to US law enforcement and then it was transmitted to National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre of Canada and Winnipeg police department.

The police launched an investigation in early October and on October 10 already searched the suspect's house. The search confirmed the guilt and the man was taken into custody. Electronic carriers with images of child sexual abuse were found in the house.

WRHA dismissed the doctor from work at the time of the investigation. The organization said that at the moment there are no data on the involvement of the doctor’s patients in this scandal. WRHA is now busy transferring patients to other doctors and actively cooperating with the police to collect complete data on what happened.

Dr. Shady gained fame through successful work with children and adults with Tourette syndrome. In the 1980s, he became one of the key figures in the study of this disease and the search for methods to combat it in Manitoba.

The Tourette Society of Canada expressed sincere surprise at the charges. However, the statement said that the company fully supports the opinion of the police, and Dr. Shady is not involved in the activities of Tourette Canada in Winnipeg.

At the moment, the fault of Shady is not finally proved, this decision can be made only by the court.
