Saskatchewan will buy Manitoba hydroelectricity

There is a new agreement between Manitoba and Saskatchewan: Manitoba Hydro will send hydroelectricity to Saskatchewan starting from 2022.

On Monday a term sheet was signed between two provinces that says that up to 215 megawatts of hydroelectricity will be sent to Saskatchewan for at least 18 years starting from 2022. Later, the duration of the service can be extended to 30 years.

A representative of Hydro said that at the moment electricity is being transmitted using existing lines, however, additional capabilities are needed to transfer 215 megawatts.

The director of Hydro stated that the final contract for this agreement will be drawn up and signed in mid-2019.

It also became known that the income of the hydra through exports became more than $400 million this year.
