New Land Rover Defender will come to Canada in 2019

Discontinued two years ago, Land Rover Defender will return to the North American market in early 2020 in a new design. The official premiere of the new model will take place in 2019, said Kim McCullough, vice president of marketing for the British company. Representatives of the brand do not speak about which markets, except for the USA and Canada, the British will move to.

The new generation SUV will remain an all-terrain vehicle but will be much more technological than its predecessor. Now prototypes are being tested at temperatures between -40 and +48 degrees and in high mountains at an altitude of up to 4 thousand meters above sea level. Tests are conducted in different countries and climate zones, in different road conditions.

It was reported that the new Defender is built on the MLA platform. Under the hood of the new model will be installed a 4- and 6-cylinder engines of the Ingenium family and hybrid power units based on it. The car will receive a short and long wheelbase and many modifications for any wallet: from a modest working to a luxurious one. A short 3-door will receive a removable roof, and a long 5-door will form a base of the pickup. The design will be different and the interior will be much more comfortable.

Land Rover engineers have significantly improved the transmission and equipped it with a variety of driver assistance systems. The fact that the new Land Rover Defender is focused on the masses.

The legendary Land Rover Defender got on the conveyor in April 1948 and was produced until 2016. Having removed it from production, the company could not abandon the cult model. It is curious that after the recall of Defender from production, the number of thefts of this model increased significantly.
