Everyone likes to eat the food that tastes good, but also we need to think about the health aspect of the food we consume and the nutrients and vitamins it gives our body.
An investigation into an outbreak of foodborne illness has led to a recall of frozen chicken nuggets.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) along with Sofina Foods Inc. is recalling Crisp & Delicious brand Chicken Breast Nuggets from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination.
The chicken nuggets are uncooked and frozen. They were sold in 1.6 kg packages, and have a best before the date on the package of 2019 JL 19. They have a UPC code of 0 69299 11703 5
The Nuggets were sold across Canada, including Manitoba. The CFIA says that there are currently 59 cases of illness in ten provinces linked to this outbreak. None of the affected people have been hospitalized.
Also, for the first time since 2007, Canada has updated the healthy nutrition guide and did not include the recommended daily intake of dairy products.
The new document includes general recommendations on nutrition, for example, Canadians were recommended to increase the consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits up to 50% of the daily diet, 25% should take grains, 25% of proteins. Information on the daily rate of consumption of dairy products was not included in the document for the first time since its first release in 1942.
People who experience symptoms, or who have underlying medical conditions, should contact their health care provider if they suspect they have a Salmonella infection.
