Many Winnipeg schools will receive bike cages

About 20 local schools will receive bike cages this spring. This will be possible thanks to a partnership between the Green Action Centre and the City.

As the statistics show, the number of bike thefts has grown by more than 80% over the past 5 years. This situation probably contributed to the fact that children stopped riding bikes to and from their schools.

Secure bike parking is the first step to make bike riding again popular among students and parents in the city.

GAC’s Sean Carlson explained that many Winnipeg schools have poorly-designed racks or do not have them at all. Therefore, the organization decided to pay attention to the problem.

This program also wants to add more movement to the lives of children and adolescents. This is especially true in the era of modern technology when almost all of them regardless of age spend most of their time at home using gadgets. They do little sports and lead a sedentary lifestyle.

Schools that are not in the program can apply online by April 26th.
