A dream of a little girl with cancer came true thanks to deadlifters

A two-year-old girl has leukemia and heavy lifters decided to raise money to make her dream come true.

A one-of-a-kind fundraiser was held in Winnipeg last weekend. Thanks to it, the family of the girl will go on a trip of a lifetime.

Twenty-three deadlifters from across Manitoba raised more than $20,000. They donated the money to the Dream Factory and now little Maya Chernichan will have a Disney vacation.

Maya’s family found out about her terrible diagnosis in August 2018. Since then, the girl has been undergoing treatment. The diagnosis was a real shock for the family. However, now Maya and her close people are looking forward to the trip. A fundraiser became a pleasant surprise for them.

A friend of the family sent in an application on Maya's behalf to the Dream Factory shortly after her diagnosis. Maya's mom Sarah explained that charity means a lot to their friend as she was also diagnosed with leukemia when she was five-years-old. The woman did this act because she remembers what she had to go through as a child and wanted to add a little joy to Maya’s life.

Midtown Barbell owner Dave Beakley said that he had been wanting to take part in such an event for long. He is amazed by the work of the Dream Factory and hopes to make a fundraiser become an annual event.

Andrew Kussy from the Dream Factory explained that such a fundraiser is something new for the organization and for Winnipeg. The original goal was to raise $10,000, but the result exceeded all expectations.

The Dream Factory hopes that a Disney vacation will make the girl a little happier and she will overcome her terrible disease!
