The Winnipeg Jets have suspended defenceman Dustin Byfuglien for refusing to report to training camp. Byfuglien asked for a leave of absence from the Jets on the opening day of training camp and the Jets granted it to him.

Byfuglien has been on a personal leave of absence since training camp began on September 13th, with no timeline for his return. Byfuglien has two more years remaining on his five-year, US$38-million contract. He's set to earn $8 million this season and $6 million in the final season. If he doesn't report by opening day of the regular season, his salary won't count under the cap.

Multiple reports surfaced last week that the 34-year-old Minnesota native was contemplating retirement.

The Winnipeg Jets host the Calgary Flames Sunday night in one of four NHL pre-season games on the schedule.

Winnipeg sat veterans such as Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, and Josh Morrissey in its 4-3 home loss to the St. Louis Blues on Friday. The Flames are coming off a 6-2 loss against the Oilers in Edmonton.

Every Winnipegger supports The Jets and expects the team to show a great show and glorious victory in the next game!
