Deadly fire in Point Douglas

Last Friday, October 26th a fire occurred in one of the residents on Prince Edward Street in Point Douglas. The fire turned into a deadly incident and had claimed the lives of two people, who were inside.

According to police, approximately 2:15 a.m. the fire spread rapidly inside the house, it was moving fast from room to room blocking the exits, so, unfortunately, not everyone managed to get out safely. Out of four occupants that were in the house when the fire started, two managed to get outside, but two others were later found dead inside the burnt house.

The fire was non-criminal in nature, as per fire department investigation results. As per police, the two people who didn’t manage to get out of the house and died inside were the 11-year-old girl and her grandmother. Also, police had arrested a teenager, that is responsible for four separate arson incidents in the area that happened the same day, but those incidents are not connected, police said.

Unfortunately, such house fires sometimes claim the lives of people who were inside and the firefighters, who risk their lives to save others. The official report will be presented in a couple of days when the investigation is closed.
