A man drowned near Gypsumville

A tragic incident happened last Tuesday night, October 30th in Fairford. A man from Pinaymootang First Nation is believed to have drowned after falling off a train.

Locals say the bridge is known as “the black bridge” – crosses the Fairford River, about 220 km north of Winnipeg. A 22-year-old man was with his friends, when he fell into the water, it was dark, so his friends didn’t really see what happened and what was the reason of the incident, they quickly lost sight of him in the dark.

RCMP, the local fire department and community volunteers searched for the man Tuesday but weren’t able to find him. Officers said the alcohol is believed to be a factor in the tragedy, so far no further comments or details from the police, the investigation and the search continues.
