In the speech that was made by a member of the United Conservative Party of Alberta during the weekend, there was a very controversial statement: John Carpay compared pride flag and swastikas.
Soon after the incident, he apologized publically and said that his comparison was misunderstood, it was unintentional. On Sunday evening he was making a speech again and he tried to explain the essence of his comparison. John Carpay stated that he discussed the nature of totalitarianism when he compared the rainbow flag and flags with Nazi and communist symbols.
He also stated that he advocated freedom of speech.
As it became known, John Carpay is behind a legal challenge according to the law on gay-straight alliances in Alberta.
