Inmate killed at Manitoba prison

Last Friday night, November 2nd a homicide took place at Stony Mountain Institution, north of Winnipeg.

A 26-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene after a fight with two other inmates. Todd Jeffery Irving, 47, and Cory Edward Derdak, 26, have each been charged with first-degree murder.

Stonewall RCMP is still investigating the incident, officers are working with other inmates for possible witnesses that could help with the details and the motive for the deadly fight.

Unfortunately, this is not the first incident like this, some inmates express concerns, which show they do not feel safe behind bars.
