Stony Mountain

The winter is over and it is time for skiers and snowboarders to pack away their gear. So many people look forward to springtime and the outdoors activities and family fun with a new season.

But there is the last chance for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy the snow and take one last ride of the season! Manitoba’s Stony Mountain Ski Area gave customers a final opportunity to enjoy winter and challenge their skills.

On Sunday, March 31st the event started, the main competition was kicked off approximately at 1:30 p.m. The ski park, located eight miles north of Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway, operates six runs and two lifts during the ski season.

The challenge for skiers is to make it across the pond of ice water without getting stuck in the middle. As many of the contestants showed, that is not an easy task to stay dry.

Every year dozens of Winnipeggers take part in this competition and it is not just for the win, people just here to have fun and enjoy the snow for the last time before the spring melts it away.

The Slush Cup isn’t just for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The competition has been going on for about 20 years, and organizers say it’s the best way to end the season.

It was a great end of the season, many Winnipeggers and guests of our city participated or just came to cheer and support their friends. Great competition, good time for a family and friends getaway fun outdoor activities and, of course, food.

Hope you had a chance to enjoy this great event at Manitoba’s Stony Mountain Ski Area and do not forget to plan a trip for the next year!

Updates On Rapid Transit In Winnipeg   Construction of Rapid Transit in Winnipeg continues, and there’s a lot to unpack. Originally, once the Southwest Transitway was completed, the Eastern Transitway was to be the next step in the project. That step has been put on hold as of summer 2019 as the City develops their new Transit Master Plan. We’re going to take a deep dive into the Southwest Transitway and then we’re going to take a look at some of the propo...
Winnipeg Residential Water And Waste Fees
The City of Winnipeg is in the process of debating an increase to water and waste rates. To understand the impact this potential increase could have, it’s important to look at a few factors. First, we will analyze how these fees are structured and what they fund. Then, we will look at why an increase is being proposed in the first place. Finally, it will be helpful to compare our fees to the fees in other Canadian cities, though this can be trickier than y...

Volunteers are really making a difference in helping those who are in need. Some Winnipeggers living in homeless camps just outside of the downtown core say they prefer the autonomy of the camp...

Our City, Our Community: Creating Connections in Winnipeg   There’s a palpable tension in Winnipeg that’s been growing over the past few weeks. You might find this surprising, given we just won the Grey Cup for the first time in decades, but it’s there. The budget cuts stem from a...
